Brent and Kirsten offered to watch our kids so Earl and I could take a mini vacation within our vacation. We decided to take a train up to Barcelona. We left Tuesday morning and came home Wednesday night. It was a quick trip packed with lots of sights to see.
Placa de Catalunya in Barcelona. Again all the buildings are so pretty. This ornate building is probably a bank or something like that. Banks don't look like that in America. After Earl took about 50 pictures of buildings, trees, and fountains around this plaza, we walked a famous avenue called La Rambla.
We found some fun things on La Rambla, like this human statue. This cowboy was Earl's favorite, but there were many, many more. They stay perfectly still until someone throws money in their container. Then they do a little dance move for you.
They sell pets on La Rambla. There are birds, turtles, fish, rabbits, lizards and chipmunks. Yes, pet chipmunks! I was tempted to buy one to take home to the Dixons!
La Rambla takes you to the port where there's this big Christopher Columbus statue. The Monday we were in Spain was Columbus Day, a National holiday in Spain. In the U.S. a big holiday like that would mean lots of shopping, but in Spain everything was closed, even the supermarket.
After walking La Rambla we hiked up to the Olympic Stadium. The Barcelona Olympics were the first Olympics I remember watching on tv. I can't believe that was more than 17 years ago.
